America's Fascist Turn: You're Living In The Goddamn Sequel

Stop scrolling. Stop pretending you don't feel it. Stop letting your liberal friends convince you this is normal.
America isn't sliding into fascism. We're already fucking there. The only question is whether you're going to pretend it's not happening while they lock down every institution, every norm, every last shred of democratic accountability.
You want proof? Look around. The playbook is so obvious it's almost insulting that they think we're this stupid.
What Fascism Actually Looks Like (Hint: It's Not Just Guys In Black Shirts)
Here's the thing nobody wants to admit. Fascism doesn't arrive with a announcement. It doesn't come with a title card reading "FASCISM NOW SHOWING." It creeps in through legal channels. Through elected officials. Through court decisions that sound boring until you realize what they actually mean.
Umberto Eco wrote about "Ur-Fascism" back in 1995. Fourteen features of fascist movements. Let me tell you how many America currently checks off.
| Eco's Feature | American Manifestation | Current Status |
|---|---|---|
| Cult of tradition | "Christian nation" rhetoric, book bans | Active |
| Rejection of modernism | Anti-science, climate denial, vaccine skepticism | Active |
| Cult of action for action's sake | Endless wars, performative legislation | Active |
| Disagreement is treason | Protesters labeled domestic terrorists | Active |
| Fear of difference | Immigration hysteria, trans panic laws | Active |
| Appeal to social frustration | Economic anxiety weaponized | Active |
| Obsession with plot/contrivance | QAnon, great replacement theory | Active |
| Enemy is both strong and weak | "China threat" + "illegal aliens are invading" | Active |
| Pacifism is trafficking with enemy | Anti-peace rhetoric, endless military budget | Active |
| Contempt for weak | Social safety net attacks, disability cuts | Active |
| Everyone educated to become hero | Vigilante culture, stand your ground | Active |
| Machismo and weaponry | Gun fetishization, military worship | Active |
| Selective populism | "Real Americans" vs everyone else | Active |
| Newspeak | "Freedom" means oppression, "patriot" means insurrectionist | Active |
That's fourteen out of fourteen. Every single box checked. But sure, tell me again how America is immune to fascism because we have "strong institutions."
The Legal Architecture Of American Authoritarianism
Let's talk about what's actually happening. Not the vibes. Not the feelings. The actual legal mechanisms being put in place right now.
Project 2025. You've heard of it. The Heritage Foundation's 900-page blueprint for transforming the federal government. Staffed by people who served in Trump's first term. People who are planning to return to power. This isn't conspiracy theory - the document is publicly available. They're not hiding what they want to do.
They want to eliminate civil service protections. They want to replace career bureaucrats with loyalists. They want to gut the Justice Department. They want to expand presidential power to levels that would make a dictator blush.
And the people who wrote this? They're not fringe. They're former cabinet secretaries. Former White House advisors. People who've held real power and want more.
The Insurrection Act. This law lets the president deploy the military domestically under certain conditions. Trump threatened to use it during the 2020 protests. Next time, he won't threaten. He'll do it. And the courts - stacked with his appointees - will find a way to justify it.
Qualified immunity. Cops can violate your rights with near-total impunity. The courts have created a legal doctrine that basically says "yeah they broke the law but they're allowed to." Want to hold police accountable? Good luck. The system is designed to protect them.
The surveillance state. We've covered this before but it bears repeating. The same government that wants to ban TikTok is running PRISM, using Stingrays, partnering with Ring, deploying facial recognition. They're not protecting you from surveillance. They're building the infrastructure for something much worse.
The Rhetoric Is No Longer Coded
Remember when politicians used to at least pretend? When they'd use dog whistles instead of bullhorns?
Those days are over.
"Vermin." That's what Trump called political opponents. Not in a leaked recording. Not in a private meeting. At rallies. On camera. To cheering crowds.
"Enemies from within." That's the language of purges. Of show trials. Of people disappearing because they said the wrong thing.
"I am your retribution." A presidential candidate. Promising vengeance. Not policy. Not reform. Retribution. Against fellow citizens.
And the media treats this like normal political discourse. Like it's just another campaign promise. Like maybe he'll cut taxes or maybe he'll round up dissidents, same difference right?
Fuck that.
When a candidate talks like a fascist, votes like a fascist, and surrounds himself with fascist advisors - he's a fascist. Stop pretending there's some other explanation.
The Corporate Enablers
Here's where it gets really disgusting.
American fascism isn't just a political movement. It's a business model.
Tech companies that promised to defend democracy now bend over backwards for authoritarian politicians. Twitter reinstated banned accounts. Facebook let political advertisers lie with impunity. Google cooperates with surveillance requests while preaching about ethics.
Media conglomerates give fascists airtime in the name of "balance." They'll interview a genocide advocate and a human rights worker and call it a debate. They'll fact-check in tiny fonts while broadcasting lies in 72-point type.
Defense contractors make billions from endless wars. Lockheed Martin. Raytheon. Boeing. These companies have a financial interest in perpetual conflict. They donate to both parties. They lobby for bigger military budgets. They profit from death.
Private prison operators need bodies in cells. They've lobbied for harsher sentencing. For immigration detention. For policies that put more people in cages. Their stock prices literally depend on human suffering.
These aren't bugs in the system. They're features. American fascism is profitable. It always has been.
The Historical Parallels Nobody Wants To Discuss
Let me say something that'll get me labeled.
America has always had fascist movements. They just weren't called fascist at the time.
The Business Plot (1933). Wall Street bankers tried to overthrow FDR and install a fascist dictatorship. A Marine Corps general testified about it before Congress. The plotters faced zero consequences. Zero. Read about it. Smedley Butler's testimony is public record.
The Red Scare (1947-1957). McCarthyism wasn't an aberration. It was the system working as designed. Blacklists. Loyalty oaths. People losing careers for their political beliefs. Sound familiar?
COINTELPRO (1956-1971). The FBI infiltrated, disrupted, and destroyed civil rights organizations. They sent fake letters to provoke violence. They surveilled activists. They assassinated leaders. Not conspiracy - documented fact.
The War on Drugs (1971-present). Nixon's advisor admitted it. The war on drugs was designed to criminalize Black people and anti-war protesters. Mass incarceration. Asset forfeiture. Police militarization. All features, not bugs.
The pattern is clear. When the system feels threatened, it shows its teeth. And right now? The system feels very fucking threatened.
What They're Building
Let me connect some dots for you.
They want a society where: - Protest is classified as domestic terrorism - Journalists can be jailed for publishing classified information - Dissent is treated as foreign influence operations - Surveillance is total and unavoidable - Corporate power is unchecked - Wealth inequality is permanent - Racial hierarchy is maintained through "colorblind" policies - Gender and sexuality are policed by the state - Reproductive autonomy is eliminated - Education is indoctrination
This isn't speculation. These are policy proposals. Court decisions. Legislative priorities. The blueprint is public.
Project 2025 outlines most of this. The Heritage Foundation isn't hiding their goals. They're announcing them. And the people who wrote it are waiting in the wings to implement it.
The Liberal Delusion
Here's what pisses me off most.
Liberals keep insisting that fascism can't happen here. That institutions will hold. That norms will constrain. That the courts will stop it.
They're wrong.
Institutions are run by people. People can be replaced. People can be intimidated. People can be complicit.
Norms only work if everyone follows them. Fascists don't follow norms. They exploit them. They use democratic processes to end democracy.
Courts are political bodies. They're staffed by appointees. Appointees who share the ideology of whoever appointed them. The Supreme Court didn't stop the Bush v. Gore theft. They didn't stop Trump's travel ban. They didn't stop the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
What makes anyone think they'll stop fascism?
The liberal playbook - vote harder, sue harder, donate harder - doesn't work against people who don't believe in democracy. You can't vote out someone who's rigging the vote. You can't sue someone who controls the courts. You can't donate your way out of authoritarianism.
I know this sounds bleak. I know it sounds defeatist. But pretending the threat isn't real isn't optimism. It's delusion. And delusion gets people killed.
The Technology Accelerant
Fascism in the 21st century has tools that Hitler and Mussolini could only dream of.
Social media algorithms radicalize faster than any pamphlet ever could. They feed outrage. They amplify division. They create parallel realities where facts don't matter.
Surveillance technology makes dissent dangerous. Facial recognition at protests. Phone tracking. Social media monitoring. They know who you talk to. They know where you go. They know what you read.
Disinformation infrastructure is industrialized. Bot farms. Troll armies. AI-generated content. The firehose of falsehood never stops. Truth can't compete with volume.
Digital payment systems can be weaponized. Banks can deplatform activists. Payment processors can cut off dissenters. Financial surveillance tracks every transaction.
This isn't theoretical. It's happening now. To people just like you.
What Actually Works
Okay. So the situation is fucked. The institutions are compromised. The technology is weaponized. The fascists are organized.
What do we do?
First, stop pretending this is normal politics. It's not. You don't compromise with people who want to eliminate your rights. You don't debate people who think you're subhuman. You don't vote hoping someone else will do the work.
Individual Actions:
- Get off the platforms that radicalize people. Delete Facebook. Leave Twitter. Stop feeding the algorithm. Use encrypted alternatives. Signal. Matrix. Briar.
- Learn actual history. Not the sanitized version. The real one. How fascism rose in Europe. How it was stopped. How it succeeded. Read Primo Levi. Read Hannah Arendt. Read Timothy Snyder.
- Build local networks. Know your neighbors. Have face-to-face conversations. Create mutual aid structures. When the system fails - and it will - you'll need people you trust.
- Protect your digital life. We've covered this. Encryption. Privacy tools. Operational security. Make it hard for them to track you.
Community Actions:
- Organize locally. City councils. School boards. County commissions. These matter more than you think. Fascism starts local. So does resistance.
- Support independent media. Corporate media won't save us. They're too invested. Support journalists who actually investigate. Pay for subscriptions. Share their work.
- Create parallel institutions. Food co-ops. Community land trusts. Mutual aid networks. Worker cooperatives. Build the world you want alongside the one you're fighting.
- Document everything. Record police interactions. Track politicians' votes. Archive fascist propaganda. Create records that can't be erased.
Political Actions:
- Push for structural reforms. Ranked choice voting. Proportional representation. Campaign finance reform. Term limits. Make the system harder to corrupt.
- Support anti-fascist organizations. They exist. They're doing the work. They need resources. Find them. Support them.
- Challenge fascist candidates at every level. Don't let them run unopposed. Don't let them normalize their rhetoric. Make them defend every word.
- Prepare for the long fight. This isn't one election cycle. This is years. Decades. Generations. Pace yourself. Build sustainable resistance.
The Hard Truth About Violence
Let me say something that'll definitely get me labeled.
Fascism is inherently violent. It always has been. It promises to restore order through force. It identifies enemies who must be eliminated. It glorifies strength and contempt for the weak.
Nonviolence is a moral choice. I respect it. But don't pretend it always works. Don't pretend Gandhi and King succeeded without violent contemporaries making them seem reasonable.
I'm not calling for violence. I'm calling for honesty. Fascists understand force. They respect power. They exploit weakness.
If resistance remains purely symbolic, fascism wins. If resistance can actually impose costs - economic, political, social - then maybe, just maybe, the trajectory changes.
Think about that. Really think about it.
The Choice
Here's where we are.
America is experiencing a fascist movement that's closer to power than at any point in our history. The institutions that might have stopped it are compromised. The technology that might have exposed it is weaponized. The media that might have warned us is complicit.
You can pretend this isn't happening. You can trust that the system will self-correct. You can wait for the next election, the next lawsuit, the next heroic whistleblower.
Or you can recognize what's actually unfolding. You can build networks of resistance. You can prepare for a long struggle. You can accept that democracy isn't a gift - it's something people fight for. Sometimes die for.
The fascists are organized. They're armed. They're ready.
What the fuck are you doing?
